For this jam the only thing I finished was the basics of my artificial life system.  I was inspired by a whole load of different games, but in particular Nights Into Dreams, for its charming and complex a-life system, and Red Dead Redemption 2, for the sheer joy of just watching its simulation unfold.

I'm christening this system NITE-VI v0.1

Click above to see a real-time demo of a very simple implementation of NITE-VI.

If you're interested in seeing the the result of the dark machinations of my mind wreaking havoc on vscode, you can check out the Part 2 of my submission, the public git repo:

Or.... if you dare, stare into the abyss that broke me: the untested, unfinished 'frontier' branch.

This was supposed to be a game where monsters with different types of movement, weapons, and personalities would fight/eat/breed in a big field, with expressive graphics, ui elements, interactivity, and uuuuhhh sound, but this is as far as I got in the time given.  Maybe I'll update it.  I'll definitely use it for something.
